"baseball has the great advantage over cricket of being sooner ended" -George Bernard Shaw

After a night of indulging in some of Old Town's finest pubs, my flatmates and friends decided to enjoy a bit of fresh air and exercise on a lovely weekend afternoon...

Everyone, meet Peony :)

We grabbed our cricket bat and ball (which, evidently, British students casually bring to Uni. I love it!) and headed to the Meadows for a lovely day of Rounders, a sport much like Cricket. Also invented in the British Isles, Rounders' simplified rules allow for more relaxed pick-up games such as these and is thus immensely popular with British and Irish youth. We split into two teams, picked a bowler and batsman to start us off, and were as giddy as schoolchildren for the next few hours.

Because Edinburgh graced us with a sunny, windless afternoon, the paths cutting through the Meadows were well-trodden by dogs and their masters, other groups of Uni students playing football dotted the open grassy spaces, and various coffee and crepe stands eagerly sold their treats to couples walking hand in hand.

My team, patiently waiting for me to put down the dang camera and get up to bat ;)

I had a blast romping in the sunshine with some of my new friends -- a jolly good afternoon indeed.
