HOLI

Saturday was the first day of the year that felt like Spring. What better way to mark the occasion than with a celebration of color, frolic, and love?

Thanks to Penn's Hindu and Jain student associations, the whole campus was invited to join their ritual eruption of color to celebrate the departure of Winter and the arrival of warmer months. I gathered two of my favorite people, donned an old white shirt, and headed out to College Green.

There, along with hundreds of our classmates, we were given bags of powdered paint, waited for the countdown, and then...

...well, I took no prisoners with my purple powder.

Before and after!

Giggling and splattering each other in vivid hues, we each soaked up the experience of this ancient Hindu religious festival. For some, this day signifies the triumph of good over evil. For others, they find the strength to mend broken relationships.

But for me, this was both a delicious peek inside another culture and an opportunity to share a truly beautiful moment with two beautiful souls.

Happy Holi!
